Time on Bench & Client Interview
First let me explain what is Time on Bench . It is time starting from the moment you release out from one project till get on boarded on next one.
A very difficult & boring time, Recruitment Management Group (RMG) comes into picture to showcase their talent to deploy any technical guy in any project. e.g. Java developer will be forced to work on .NET, Mainframe guy to work on C++ etc.
Plenty of such example that starts frustrating developers & they start looking for new job in hope that new organization will not do such thing with them. However it is really sad to say they face similar situation there as well. What should they do. should they start looking for another job or they should opt what RMG offering them.
Confusing situation but As I insisted in my past blogs take this as an opportunity & exploit it to make your dream come true.
Today I had a long discussion with one of prestiges client to understand what exactly they are looking for when they attract to Indian software service provider. I found that primary reason for them to come to India is Cheaper labour (feeling sorry to use this word but it is the only truth). Client expectation is - Developer must have
1. Good technical skill
2. Domain Knowledge
3. Best Practices used in their respective area
4. Communication Skill
I wanted to laugh however I could not and act like his expectation is perfectly fine with us. Also shown him that we have plethora of such talent. Truth is to get such combination in one person is next to impossible. We do have such talented people but to have such people we need good amount of money to pay them. Good Amount means hell lot of money & those people can not be retain forever so what is the solution to this situation.
Some frequently used weapons to fulfil the gap of such talented developer are Fear, Pressure, Onsite opportunity, Salary hike in next appraisal cycle etc. I have seen good number of people to take position where they know they are not the right fit but still they choose. Eventually land up with frustration as if you are not fit for the position then you need to put extra effort to fulfil the expectation. Once you agree for any position then you can't go back however client can always kick you back by using budget constraint excuse.
Lots of frustration out there for software developer, My key mantra is to start thinking about becoming entrepreneur as every human being has something special but all they need is to realize it by themselves.
